Former King current Trail Blazer Trevor Ariza opts out of NBA restart

Gambar
On Monday, Washington Wizards forward Davis Bertans became the first player to officially sidestep the bubble experience in Orlando and he might have broken the dam. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday, citing sources, that veteran forward Trevor Ariza has also decided against traveling to Disney World in early July, but his reasoning is much more complex than Bertans' impending free agency. Ariza, who is in a custody case over his son, has chosen to step away from the restart to spend a month with the 12-year-old. The 34-year-old forward signed a two-year, $25 million contract with the Sacramento Kings in the summer of 2019. After struggling through the early part of the season, general manager Vlade Divac traded Ariza to the Portland Trail Blazers, along with Wenyen Gabriel and Caleb Swanigan, for Kent Bazemore and Anthony Tolliver at the trade deadline. After moving to Portland, Ariza stepped into the starting lineup for the Blazers and helped solidify their rotation.

What parents are saying about school blazer ban and pressures to scrap branded uniform

Gambar
Parents in Manchester have been sharing their views on proposed changes to school uniform. We reported yesterday how some schools are planning to scrap blazers and ties to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in classrooms. With studies finding the virus can live on surfaces like clothing or towels for up to 72 hours, schools want pupils wearing fresh clothes each day, but say it's unrealistic for parents to wash items such as blazers so frequently. Added to this is the pressure to keep costs down for families and a bill is currently passing through Parliament calling for further guidance for schools on enforcing branded items, which parents often struggle to afford. But while some mums and dads have welcomed the move - and criticised the 'scandalous' prices of some branded products - others say it will make no difference to the potential coronavirus risk, as not all children would wear freshly washed clothes each day anyway. DAVID BOOTH Methinks there's still a bit of anti-Detroit bias out there. You know, Detroit can't compete Tokyo. German cars are more reliable than American. And, of course, the most consistent lament: any automobile designed in the United States of America, by definition, has no soul; U.S. automakers, right down to their lowest-rung engineer, reputed to the grubbiest of, well, money grubbers. And it's not like, for quite some time, such a reputation wasn't well-warranted. Detroit, for far too long, took its customers for granted, its technological superiority as birthright, and its once dominant market position as eternal. Hubris is seldom a viable long-term winning strategy, even if it will — General Motors proof positive of that — fool you into thinking it's a short-term solution. But the General got this message quite some time ago. The days of Cadillacs being nothing more

2021 Chevrolet Blazer makes active safety features standard on most trims

Gambar
A few days ago we heard that Chevrolet would add a Trailering Package to the 2021 Blazer, making a 4,500-pound tow rating available on front-wheel-drive trims with the 3.6-liter V6. As told by GM-Trucks, the list of small tweaks to the new model year won't end there. The biggest change is four of six Blazer trims getting six active safety features standard. Since the crossover's introduction for the 2019 model year, shoppers have had to pay to get lifesavers like automatic emergency braking (AEB) and forward collision alert on the top RS and Premier. Those technologies have been unavailable at any cost on the four lower trims. Next year, a Chevrolet Safety Assist Package groups AEB with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, and Intellibeam headlights that automatically toggle between high and low beams. For 2021, the Safety Assist package will be standard on the 2LT, 3LT, RS, and

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Style: A White Back-to-Work Blazer

DURING THE LAST three months of quarantine, my beloved ecru cardigan by London label & Daughter has become a second skin. Snugly sumptuous, with pockets for storing hand sanitizer, this comfortable cardi has molded to my body, maintaining its sloped shoulders even when I'm not wearing it. But on Zoom calls, I've noticed my trusted knit looks like a worn-in bathrobe. So, as restrictions lift and we prepare to re-enter society, I've decided it's time to significantly smarten up my wardrobe. For inspiration I looked, as... Jacqueline Kennedy's White House Tour

‘Trail-blazer’ Burnes planning next step on rugby journey

Gambar
Lailanie Burnes has played a pivotal role in the growth of women's rugby in Fiji since relocating to Nadi from Australia 12 years ago. Burnes, whose mother Nanise is from Nairai in the Lomaiviti Islands, founded Nadi Blazers Women Rugby Club, the region's first female team, in 2012. The club has gone on to produce a number of Fijiana sevens and 15s players. One of those is Burnes herself, who has captained Fiji's 15s side and helped the team qualify for Rugby World Cup 2021. Playing in the Pacific nation's first women's Rugby World Cup campaign in New Zealand next year remains an achievable goal for the prop, but she is already taking steps to ensure that rugby remains in her life once the time comes to hang up her boots. In March, Burnes completed the Level 3 Coaching Award, on which she was assessed by World Rugby Master Trainer Richard Skelly, while she has also qualified as a World Rugby Coach Educator. "I was so happy to be able to pass the [Leve

Jules Daoud Knows Just How to Rock a Cropped Blazer & Bralette

Jules Daoud may have been a new addition to Summer House last season, but the sizzling brunette is certainly not new to the style scene. One glance at Jules' Instagram page can confirm that this petite fashion powerhouse knows a thing or two about turning heads — and that includes looks that go beyond her sexy swimsuit collection.  On May 22, for example, Jules shared a stunning black and white pic from her balcony that just might be the steamiest work from home outfit we've ever seen. In the shot, Jules posed in a comfy Calvin Klein heather bralette with a coordinating pair of cotton shorts. That combo might sound cozy enough, but Jules took it one step further when she paired the sleep set with a sophisticated, cropped blazer.   "Pure silk & timeless - this blazer belonged to my teta, who passed it down to my mom who passed it down to me," she explained in her caption about the vintage coverup. It turns out

Former Trail Blazer Cliff Robinson wants apology from the City of Portland for racial profiling incident in 1997

Former Trail Blazers' star Clifford Robinson wants an apology from the City of Portland for a racial profiling incident in 1997. Amid the backdrop of protests about systemic racial injustice and police brutality following the death of George Floyd, Robinson's communications manager, Chris Young, chronicled the alleged incident on social media. "In the summer of 1997 Portland Trail Blazer Clifford Robinson, his brothers, and friends were the subject of blatant racial profiling by Portland (Oregon) police. Robinson was seen entering his vehicle with paintball guns, the cops were called by someone that reported that Robinson and his party had assault rifles, and a public safety alert was broadcast on local and national media. Robinson's vehicle, along with its occupants, was subjected to a paramilitary-style blockade near the Portland waterfront, which was widely publicized. Heavily armed Portland police did not find assault rifles in Robinson's vehicle for obvious re

Robinson said he, his brothers and some friends got into his Humvee with paintball guns. Someone called the police and said they had assault rifles. 2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS: Do You Want Some Camaro With Your New SUV?

The Chevrolet Blazer might not be as close as some would have wanted to its famous predecessor but it still is a mid-size SUV that shares cool styling cues with the Camaro. While the name doesn't really do justice to the Chevrolet design department's effort, the new Blazer is certainly one of the most distinctive models in the segment, offering good looks and the promise of a sportier driving character in a practical body that comfortably sits five and their luggage. 2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Review: The Bad Boy of the Bunch

Auto123 reviews the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. Among 4x4 die-hards, the original Chevrolet Blazer is a true icon. Good-condition models dating from the late 1960s sell for a veritable fortune these days. And so, as we've seen a number of times in recent years, the company logically asked itself, Why waste strong brand recognition? Since last year Chevrolet has thus brought back the Blazer name, this time stuck on a crossover the company has parachuted into its already-well-stocked SUV lineup in between the Equinox and the Traverse. Predictably, some see the appropriation of the Blazer name as sacrilege; others rejoice at the return of a familiar name to a lineup that includes not just big 'utes but the tiny Spark and the electric Bolt as well. Rugby’s Tobie Titus finally hangs up his blazer and tie

Long-serving rugby administrator Tobie Titus has hung up his blazer and tie for the last time. SA Rugby on Wednesday paid tribute to Titus‚ as well as Harold Verster‚ who quickly made it clear he is going nowhere until at least September‚ with every prospect of sticking around the corridors of power in Bloemfontein afterwards. Verster is SA Rugby's longest-serving high-ranking official having served either as president or managing director of the Free State Rugby Union since 1993. Titus‚ meanwhile‚ will disappear into the sunset after serving sport for six decades. 'Mr T' (not because he looks like an A-team character) or 'Oom Tobie'‚ started his involvement in sport at the University of the Western Cape in the 1960s.

Vanquishing viruses is a Blazer tradition

In 1977, the world's first effective treatment for a viral disease occurred at University Hospital. Richard Whitley, M.D., and Charles Alford developed vidarabine, the first drug to treat encephalitis caused by the herpes simplex virus. Their achievement opened the door to the whole field of antiviral therapy, and today antivirals are a vital part of the pharmacological arsenal, used to treat influenza, HIV and many other conditions. Whitley, now a Distinguished Professor of infectious diseases, is still doing groundbreaking treatment research as principal investigator of a $37.5 million, five-year U19 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease Centers of Excellence for Translational Research to study and develop treatment for high-priority emerging infections. That research helped develop the investigational drug remdesivir, which is being used to treat select infected patients in the United States and China who have been affected by COVID-19. R
